Cupping & Gua Sha

CUPPING

Cupping is an ancient healing technique used by many practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine. During a cupping treatment glass, silicone, plastic or bamboo cups are placed on an area of the body. We prefer to use silicone cups where a suction is created that enables stagnation under the skin to come to the surface to be released. This creates raised redness (petechiae) which can last anywhere from 4-7 days. Cupping is most commonly used to treat pain, muscular tension, reduce trigger points, increase mobility, and release scar tissue but can be used for many additional reasons as well.

Limited cupping is able to be done within the community room however for more extensive cupping we recommend booking the private room.

gua sha

Sometimes call 'coining,' 'spooning,' or 'scraping,' gua sha is defined as instrument assisted unidirectional press-stroking of a lubricated area of the body's surface. This press-stroking creates transitory therapeutic petechiae called 'sha' representing extravasation of blood in the subcutis. This helps with pain in the upper back, middle back and can be used for various lung issues.

Gua Sha can be performed in the community room post your acupuncture session and is included with treatment. Ask your acupuncturist if it is a good option for you.
