Frequently asked questions.

FAQs

  • Acupuncture needles are extremely thin, and the treatment is usually painless. Dull, achy, tingling or numb sensations are normal. If you are feeling uncomfortable though please let your acupuncturist know. We want you to be as comfortable and relaxed as possible.

  • Yes. Single-use, sterile needles are used and then properly disposed. Mayo completed a 4-year Masters degree program, and has extensive clinical experience. She is nationally board-certified and completed numerous safety courses to receive state licensure. It is safe and gentle enough to use while pregnant, though there are certain points that are not used, so please let your acupuncturist know if you know or suspect you are pregnant.

  • Please wear loose clothing so that we can roll sleeves and pants up as necessary to reach needed acupuncture points.

We recommend eating a little something before you come in. It is also a good idea to steer clear of caffeine prior to your appointment and drink lots of water.

You are in a community setting so if you are sensitive to light and sound please feel free to bring your headphones, earplugs, or eye mask with you as well.

  • A typical treatment is 40 to 50 minutes. The length of your treatment can be shorter if you have time constraints and can last up to one hour if no one is waiting for a chair. Please communicate your needs with your acupuncturist.

  • Based on CDC and Maricopa County recommendations, our mask policy is subject to change at any time.

Masks are mandatory on all Tuesday appointments. Masks are optional for any appointments Wednesday through Saturday.

When mandatory, masks must fit over the nose and under the chin with no gaps. Surgical masks must be worn with the blue side facing outwards.

  • PhxCA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit entity. Our purpose is to break down the barriers to healthcare and share the benefits of acupuncture in hopes of bringing physical and emotional health to our community as a whole. You can make a charitable donation and receive a tax deduction on your 1040.

  • -Everyone, clients and staff alike, must wear a mask for Tuesday appointments. Masks are optional Wednesday-Saturday. If you don't have a mask, we have surgical masks available for $2.

-We now have waterproof covers on chairs that, along with person bins, chair handles and stations, are wiped with sanitizing wipes in between every client.

-There are medical grade air purifiers and we have installed an air scrubber in our A/C system.

-High touch point areas (ie door handles, tables, bathroom, etc) are wiped down frequently throughout the day, in addition to our nightly cleanings.

  • Yes, you can view a listing of fellow wellness businesses on our Recommendations page.

  • Acupuncture is a process. Some conditions are easily treated with one or two treatments but most require a course of treatment to achieve lasting results. Every person is different but a general guideline is: 3-5 treatments for acute or mild conditions, 10-20 treatments for chronic or severe, and stress maintenance and general wellness is 2-4 times per month. Your acupuncturist will discuss with you a course of treatment on your first visit.

  • At PhxCA, we will treat minors as young as 13, as long as they're willing to receive acupuncture and the parent has signed a minor consent form. Please call us at (623)242-0541 before booking an appointment for a minor.

  • Pets are not allowed. However, service animals are always welcome. Read more about the distinction here.
